Matt joined Ainsworth Heritage in 2006 as a consultant until the companies’ temporary merge in 2007. Upon the re-establishment of Ainsworth Heritage in 2009, Matt joined Jane as a Manager and Owner of Ainsworth Heritage.
Matt has been involved on numerous projects as a project leader, greatly expanding his skills in Historic and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage fields. Matt has experience in historic research, heritage surveys, community consultation, site assessment, impact assessment and site management. He has undertaken projects for small private owners, commercial companies, local councils, and state and commonwealth departments. Matt has worked on Heritage Management Plans, Conservation Management Plans, Heritage Assessments, Heritage Surveys and Archaeological Assessments amongst others.
Recently, Matt has undertaken a key role in projects such as the Archaeological Assessment of Shipwreck Heritage within the mouth of the Richmond River (Ballina Surf Life Saving Club), the Heritage Assessment of the Convent of the Presentation Sisters in Lismore and Impact Assessment of work for both the NSW RTA and the NSW Department of Commerce. Matt has also had experience on large scale infrastructure projects such as the historic and indigenous surveys of the SANTOS Fairview to Gladstone pipeline corridor and gas fields. Matt has focused on developing his skills in the area of Indigenous Heritage, having undertaken work on such projects as the Pigabeen Road Excavations (Tweed Heads) and the survey of the proposed Byrrill Creek dam site in the upper Tweed valley.
Matt has developed skills in the utilization of GIS software (ArcGIS in particular) allowing him to undertake a key role within the company in map compilation and production. In addition to these duties, Matt is also the Workplace Health and Safety Officer for Ainsworth Heritage and was responsible for the writing of company polices for OH&S.
Matt is also heavily involved in Rugby union within the Northern Rivers region, having played for over twenty-six years and was previously Club President of Byron Bay Rugby in 2006-2007. Matt was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the Far North Coast Rugby Zone in 2008. Matt has also been a long time volunteer in various aspects of rugby, and was recognised for his commitment and dedication as the NSW Rugby Volunteer of the Year in 2007 and as a finalist in the Australian Rugby Volunteer Awards, also in 2007.
