Jane specialises in Rural Heritage, Defence Heritage, and Industrial and Landscape Archaeology. Jane researched the 18th – 20th century archaeological defence landscape of the Sydney Basin as part of her Honours degree in Archaeology, where she was able to combine her interest in defence heritage with an archaeological landscape approach to cultural heritage. Jane is recognised as one of Australia’s experts in military heritage and has recently been appointed as Australia’s expert member for the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on Military Heritage and Fortifications (IcoFORT). Additionally, Jane was elected to the Executive Committee of ICOMOS Australia in 2009.
Jane previously worked for the National Trust of Australia (NSW) identifying and assessing historic buildings and industrial heritage for inclusion on the National Trust Register and the NSW State Heritage Register. Jane is currently a member of The National Trust of Australia (NSW) Industrial Heritage Technical Advisory Committee (former Chair) and is a Full Member of ICOMOS Australia.
Jane’s consulting experience has involved the organisation of extensive heritage surveys and register referrals. Jane has prepared numerous heritage assessments, archaeological assessments, movable heritage assessments and management plans for heritage sites, including several Integrated Heritage Assessments. Jane has considerable experience and expertise in all aspects of the historic environment including historical survey work, historical research, site analysis and interpretation, significance assessment, design and management advice and development of conservation management policies and works. Jane provides strategic heritage advice for all manner of heritage sites including local, state and Commonwealth heritage sites, recently undertaking nine strategic reviews of Heritage Management Plans for the Australian Heritage Council via the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.
Jane is dedicated to being actively and heavily involved in volunteer heritage organisations which seek to advance the industry, lobby governments for stronger heritage protection and ensure that best practice standards are maintained. Jane has volunteered on several technical committees, including those of the NSW National Trust and Australia ICOMOS and IcoFORT. In her spare time, Jane chases her children around the backyard and can regularly be found having afternoon tea parties with the dollies.
